About Harlem Acoustic Guitar Workshop

I started Harlem Acoustic Guitar Workshop because I woke up one morning and had an epiphany. There just isn't any consistently available, low cost music education available in the neighborhood where I live. Even my own private lessons cost more than some of my  students can comfortably afford. And if something isn't done, eventually, teachers providing music lesson at even higher cost will eventually be forced to start doing something else for a living. It is clear that having an affordable alternative for the average person to become a confident musician will ultimately create not only a demand for more live acoustic music, but also a vast new crop of confident people who excel at creating both music and wealth, and who will value music as an indispensable form of expression for their lives. I am one of those people do actually do value music as an indispensable, almost invaluable form of self-expression. Some of the greats like Lionel Hampton, Sal Salvadore, Duke Ellington and others, dedicated their entire lives to making music more widely available to the average person. I am inspired to be in such good company.

I plan to start with the Acoustic Guitar Workshop that meet weekly and include a lesson and an opportunity to jam with other musician using what you learn that week. The the next week we move on to new material. That way, you are always learning and building on that you already know. The material will include learning to read and play notes, chords, left hand fingering and plectrum technique, upper positions studies, sight reading studies, ear training, songs, repertoire and memorization techniques and playing with other musicians (ensembles).

To make this really successful, I have established Membership Dues of $10.00 (ten dollars) every six months. And each actual workshop will cost $5.00 (five dollars) for members who attend. Non-members who attend will pay $10.00. These membership fees will cover the cost of providing all the material to be used for the Workshop sessions, and ensure that venues or incidentals that have to be paid for in advance are paid for and will be in place so that you can have a continual, and consistently beneficial learning experience for years to come. Even with these fees, this will be the lowest cost, high quality workshop available in this area.

Cherish your visions. Cherish your ideals. Cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all heavenly environment; of these, if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built.
~ James Allen, from As a Man Thinketh
